DESCRIPTION:Background:\n\nGlobally\, an estimated 1.2 billion women lack access to basic sanitation facilities during their menstrual periods\, leading to negative health consequences and reduced quality of life. In many low-income communities\, girls face significant barriers to managing their menstrual hygiene due to cultural taboos\, lack of education\, and limited access to affordable menstrual hygiene products. The consequences of inadequate menstrual hygiene can include infection\, stigma\, and missed school or work days.\n\nObjectives:\n\nThe proposed program aims to achieve the following objectives:\n\nTo increase access to affordable and sustainable menstrual hygiene products among girls in low-income communities.\nTo provide comprehensive menstrual health education to girls\, including information on menstrual hygiene\, reproductive health\, and gender equality.\nTo reduce stigma and shame associated with menstruation by engaging community members in education and awareness-raising activities.\nTo improve attendance and academic performance among girls by ensuring they have the necessary tools to manage their menstrual cycles.\nApproach:\n\nThe proposed intervention will be implemented through a partnership between local NGOs and community-based organizations. The program will consist of two main components: pad provision and menstrual health education.\n\nPad Provision:\nThe program will provide girls with access to affordable and sustainable menstrual hygiene products\, such as reusable cloth pads or menstrual cups. These products will be distributed through a network of community-based organizations and schools\, ensuring that girls have access to the products they need.\n\nMenstrual Health Education:\nThe program will provide comprehensive menstrual health education to girls through a series of workshops and awareness-raising activities. The curriculum will cover a range of topics\, including menstrual hygiene\, reproductive health\, and gender equality. The program will also engage parents\, teachers\, and community members to reduce stigma and promote awareness of menstrual health issues.\n\nThe program’s effectiveness will be measured through a combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
